Can I get a mortgage in my sixties?

June 25, 2018

We all consume so much information on a day to day basis through mobiles, tablets and PCs and so much of that information is specifically targeted at you and me. We are at the whim of the marketeers as to what we are exposed to. The recent trials and tribulations of Facebook have allowed many of us an opportunity to peek behind the curtains to see how pervasive this actually is - and it is quite shocking!

It should therefore not come as a great surprise then to keep getting clients approaching me thinking that they will not be able to get a mortgage when they are approaching retirement age. After all, this is what is being told to them in the media.

However, it could not be further from the truth and when I tell clients what the lending criteria is, it comes as a pleasant surprise! The banks are open for business and as long as you fit criteria then some institutions will lend up until your 85th birthday without necessarily needing proof of a pension income. They will base their lending decision on current income provided you can continue to work at that job.

If you  or someone you know needs that advice then just get in touch to see if we can help.
