Quite literally bricks and mortar...................
Well, if you had told me three years ago that I would have changed career and started a business by the end of 2018 , I'd have been telling you that you needed your head examined.
But here we are and not only that but we have just secured our first premises with the assistance of my pension pot. I have cashed in what was a fairly poorly performing pension into a SIPP which has allowed me to use the funds in the pot to purchase the property. We will start trading from there in February 2019 after the refurb. The idea is that the SIPP will rent the premises to Bricks and Mortar Limited who will pay the rent. The rent then gets paid as a deductible expense for corportation tax to the SIPP and I benefit from the pension when I decide to pack up and sail off into the sunset. A no brainer!
The location of the premises was absolutley vital. I was not bothered about walk in traffic but needed the site to have a presence so that we could continue to build the Bricks and Mortar brand. I think that I have found this at the top end of Crow Road. We are at 620 Crow Road which if you go up and down to and from Anniesland you'll know the site. Corner plot that was Central Estate agents, a home improvement showroom, antique shop and back in the day Victoria Wine. I have attached the signage mock up. We went to look at it one Friday and was amazed at the amount of traffic that passed the place just on a Friday afternoon. It ticks all the boxes!
I think that we will go for an open plan feel with a meeting room and hope to get the refurb finished so that we can make the move at the end of January. I'll keep you updated on how things are going over the Xmas break.
Finally I'd like to thank everyone who has encouraged me thus far and hats off to Chris Brown who gave me the opportunity to start a second career. Something that I will always be grateful for. Thanks Broonie!
